Design exploration for Thing
When I first started modeling characters in 3D I would do a few sketches here and there and then jump right onto the computer and start modeling away. In hindsight, those designs weren't thought out very well. Now, I'm doing more sketches of ideas, focusing on shapes and patterns and just general exploration really.
With Thing, I did quite a few sketches for the suit design, many that aren''t on this sheet. These guys were the finals of the finals. Doing so many iterations allowed me to pick out the bads from the goods and combine ideas from one to another. It was an enjoyable process, on the good days :).

A few things from early this year
I've been all over the place for the last few months. I'm trying to get all of my work from this year posted so I can start fresh next year. Here's a character I worked on about a few months ago. I'm still working on the textures, though I have not been back to finish them in some time :/.
Here's another one that I started a few months back also. Blocked him in but have not tackled the details yet. I haven't sculpted armor much so maybe I am a little intimidated by the time it's going to take me to finish.

The New Kind
For the last 6 months or so I have been working with Peter Hyoguchi on The New Kind as a character modeler and oh what fun has it been! For this model, I had the opportunity to build her from the ground up. This is the digital version of a live actor that will be used as a digital double in some of the shots in the series. There's still a few things left to fix but I felt comfortable showing where I am right now with her progress.

More progress on Ibel for Escape contest
I finally got around to my first pass on the textures for the rest of Ibel. I spent a good amount of time perfecting the UV's and making sure there was as little stretching as possible, thanks to the help of Mark Dedecker and his techniques in Maya. I finally feel that the challenges I faced before when doing retopo and laying out UV's has met its final days :).

A little texture practice and such
I'm currently working on a character for a contest. Here, I'm testing out the normals and making sure the texture maps are going in the right direction. Need more work on the eyes though. More to come soon. Render in Marmoset.
